random Opponents scenarios

Opponents.jpg NEW CHANGE! RandomOp.exe
My favorite programming language (Yet Another Basic from www.yabasic.org) has added a "binding" command to create stand-alone programs. So my first offering (because it was the simplest to do) is an executable for windows which will give you a game with random opponents. Put this file in your dominions2/maps directory an anytime you click on it you will get a new playable game named "Random Opponents". You will get 3 to 8 randomly selected nations set at random difficulty AND there will be random alliances between them.

When you have done that then simply create a new game and select the nation you wish to play as a human player. Dont choose any computer opponents. Choose the "Random Opponents" map and play.

There are no options and no error checking at this time. If the Random Opponents map is greyed out (not selectable) then its because your nation is one of the AI's. You can choose another nation to play or re-run the exe to get a new RandomOp.map to try.

You can play more than one human player but you increase the chance of it being greyed out. And you can add nations as AI that you really want in there. However you should be aware that they might be allied with other AIs in the game.

The map image used is always going to be the one from the Aran map. This is because there is no option to select the map to randomize. And it also makes this map work with the demo version of Dom2.

I can do a linux version if its desired.

---- from here down its the original writeup on the random opponents page ----

The nation maps use the aran.tga which comes with the Dominions 2 demo (and full game). They provide randomly selected opponents at randomly selected difficulty levels with randomly selected alliances. Fun huh? So if you wish to play Man you can download the Man.map and set Man for human player, then play. No need to select opponents. These maps are re-randomized once a day so tomorrow you can download it again and play a different set of opponents.
