some of my MAP projects both started and completed ones.                         send comments and suggestions to   dommy@dom3minions.com   please
For those who wish to try an NI map, but maybe not quite that extreme. This is a PI map. But to get it from getting too well known and predictable, it will be another daily re-randomized map. Its a small download because it reuses the map image of the Parganos map included with the game. Partial_anos.zip
Because some have found that playing with no independent recruitables makes the AI use its elites more, and even makes an all-human game abit more strategic. Not to mention the drastic cut-down on micro-managment in the late game. But for those not quite ready for an NI (No Independents) map here is a PI (Partial Indepts). Presently running at about 10% placement of recruitable indepts. The thread for comments is here.
For those who want to try SemiRandom maps there is now Aran_Dom.
This is a small zip of only the Aran_Dom.map file. It uses the Aran image that comes with Dom3. So it will look familiar but will play very different. Aran_Dom.zip
Just like the Poke_in_the_Eye map (down below) which is a daily chaotisized version of the Eye map in the game, Aran_Dom will daily SemiRandomize a new version of the Aran map. Each one should be good for a few games and when you start knowing what and where everything is then just come back to download a fresh version.
This is wrapped Tower from top to the bottom (not side to side). High Roller screenshot.
It has 400 provinces and forces a very different game due to the tower shape and many chokepoints. Its 378 land and 22 water so its best with only one water nation in the game.

This is smaller Tower map. It also wraps from top to the bottom (not side to side). Small Tower screenshot.
It has 200 provinces and forces a very different game due to the tower shape and many chokepoints. It has 180 land and 20 water.

This is what most people seem to consider to be a "large" map. LargeTower_01 Map
It has 400 provinces and forces a very different game due to the tower shape and many chokepoints.

These Pipeline Maps are a great change of pace. They are very short (top to bottom of the map fits on the screen at once) but very very wide. There is only room for one nation at a time so everyone end up with just one enemy on each side of them. You cannot get surrounded. Pretty much the entire game will amount to everyone fighting whoever is on either side of them on the map. Its also great for avoiding micro-management in late game since most of the game will be only 2 fronts to manage.
These are Mega Sized (1500 provinces) because its how I like to play. But if you play with 30 or 40 nations at a time its a small map.
Eventually, I will try to create a couple of good smaller versions suitable for MP play.
This is a smaller Tower Map
It has 400 provinces and is probably a great map for early play while learning the game. Its very tall but only wide enough for one nation at a time to be placed on top of each other. So you wont get swarmed in the early game by the AIs or other players. And it makes managing your "front lines" much easier. If you play with computer players then I recommend you use Independent setting of 5 or higher since that slows down the advance of the AI during the beginning of the game.

I have finally recreated the Daily Randomly Generated Maps library from the Dom3Minions site.
Randomized Maps
This was an idea toward creating a large map using pieces. Since Dom3 numbers its provinces from lower-left to upper right then it should be possible to use 3 pieces and do a small amount of work blending them at the seams if they are fairly close at that point (or even easier if they are ocean at that point). So if I run maps of 500 province each then stack 3 of them to get a 1500 province map it should take little effort to make it look good. The advantage is that each section can look very different. I can have one be whitish and snow-country looking, and one greenish and temperate looking, and one brown rocky and reddish fiery desert looking. Here are some test runs I did. I figured I would run random maps in batches then look for good candidates for the project. MidPieces
I would like to put more work into a really large map. Set names that are logical (islands for islands, mountains for mountains, etc) and make them unique so more than one province isnt named the same. Thats very hard for the game itself to do with a 1500 province map. I also want to lower the number of colors with other tricks to make the file size smaller. Then I will use the one image to create many game variations and scenario .map files so that people can play a wide variety of games without downloading another monster-sized map image. So far, these are some that I am considering:  Keepers
But since I am so slow at doing large projects, if YOU want to make a map available to the game and particularly like one of these then feel free to ask me for it.
The Max_001 map is a map I created using ParadoxHarbinger's MapGen. Its 1055 provinces (as close as I could get to the max size allowed by Dom3 of 1500) and its a wrapped map. That means there are no walls and corners to use. Here is a snapshot of it.
Here is another chaotic craziness map and it has 1500 provinces. The MegaMap. It crashes some peoples machines and takes so long to create a game that some people think its crashed. Thats why I shifted my attentions to the programs which modify the maps with pre-written provinces. If you like this then be sure to check out the SemiRandom project. MegaMap snapshot
The TriMega map is another really large map. It includes 3 really large continents which do connect by land, and plenty of water. No one will be pushed up against anyone else at the start.
Here is a screenshot of it.
The mega-sized Tower map is an interesting change of pace. Its very skinny but very very tall. There is only room for one nation at a time so everyone gets stacked up on the map. You cannot get surrounded. Pretty much the entire game will amount to everyone fighting whoever is above them, and whoever is below them, on the map.

And a Dom3 version of my popular Dom2 pollution of one of the install programs default maps.
Poke in the Eye map is just the .map file with no graphic. It re-uses the eye.map that comes with the game (the map for Desert Eye). Its been chaoticized by dropping random commanders all over the map with random equipment, random guards, and random troops. And recently updated to include random magic sites, random AI alliances, random temples to random gods, random unrest, and random levels of defence against stealth units.
The MapGen project of ParadoxHarbinger is coming along nicely. Here are some batches I have run for people. These are not yet as pretty as the ones that the Dom3 game creates, but they are wrapped.

I might even get around to changing the old DomMap generator abit Dominions 2 Map Generator project and various other old Dom2 projects if I cant get someone else to do them better. the old www.Dom2minions.com
I should start working on that stuff. And setting up the daily updates so that the maps dir like I had for Dom2 Dom2 Random Maps will be active again with Dom3 versions.
