Originally Dom3Minions.com was supposed to be a public server in the
old Internet style. Everyone who wanted one could have a login on the
system. They would have a home directory, webspace, an email, etc. They
could run as many games out of their home directory as they wanted running
off of the server. They could create a webspace for any Dom3 project. But
the server is linux (debian) and text only. No gui or fancy menu driven
utilities. Only about a dozen people went for it (Zen, Ballbarian, lch,
DrPretorious, Jarkko, some others).
Please do not use PMs on the various forums. Id much prefer email to gandalf on the dead.isp of community net
A very basic game template:
your forum login and email (so I know who to accept game changes from)
Game Name (no spaces please)
era (early, mid, late, or all 3 together)
map
Usually added:
hosting frequency (prefer 1.5 day increments for international games)
game settings
mods
master password
Common considerations:
rename on?
Indept strength? (0-9, default 5)
Hall of Fame set higher? (15, default 10)?
Frequency of Magic Sites? (0-75, default 40)
start button off? (no start button means contacting me to start the game)
Less common:
Research difficulty (0-3, default 1)
money, resource, supplies (50-300, default of each is 100)
special maps (tower, no-indepedents, partial indepts, boosted AIs, SemiRandom'd, Chaosed)
Backups emailed to you each turn?
no in-game graphs (cant see player scores)
no nation info (cant see other players god names and titles)
Special Features:
no-going-AI lock so that players cant quit the game without your approval (allows for getting subs)
game check script that allows seeing who has done turns using browser without using Dom3
Game directory with last 9 files of Scoregraph and Stats files viewable by browser
access to the game log either zipped and sent to you or in the games web directory
browser downloadable turn files in the game directory
Pain-in-the-Ass but possible on request for larger games:
pbem (play by email)
pbem and direct connect in same game
tourist games
direct connect but players who want their turns emailed to them
players getting email notices on hosting
reminder notices sent X hours prior to hosting for those who havent done a turn yet
hosting notice to players who want it as a text message to their cell phone
admin features such as changing the games timer or doing rollbacks without contacting me for it
notification to you of specific happenings in the game (specific province attacked, in game messages between players, certain spells cast, etc)
Added note on notifications:
There are many ways available for avoiding logging into Dom3 to check the
game.
Email notifications, text messaging to cell phones, 10 hour pre-host
reminders, turns sent by email, check the game by browser, check the game
by ftp, get turns by browser, get turns by ftp, auto-post game turn notice
to irc, auto-post game turn notice to forum. These features (and many many
more) are available if the person setting up the game wants them.
Challenge me:
ask for anything you have seen on a Dom3 game
ask for anything you have seen on a Dom3 menu
ask for anything you wish could be done in a Dom3 game
example menus:
http://www.llamaserver.net/createGame.cgi
http://www.dom3minions.com/lab/MakeGame.htm
Please email me a link to mods and maps. Make sure it is a link to the
file, not a download site. Or even better include them as an attachment.
And dont just say the name of what you want and count on that meaning we
will be using the same version. If you want to be sure then send it me.
Due to health I no longer run games, offer to do specialized maps, or
request for designed AIs but I can recommend people who do. Keep in mind
that when you request that a game be hosted on my server then YOU will be
running the game. I am just the host. Players who send me requests, no
matter how reasonable, will only get bounced to you for decision.
